Mara Hoover Helps Women Experience Economic Empowerment in Rural Community

UnknownLocal women are launching a new program to engage women around money management in Nevada County. Women currently make up more than half of the workforce, earn 60 percent of doctorates and masters degrees and influence over 80 percent of the purchases made in the United States.

Women should feel economically empowered, but recent surveys suggest otherwise. In fact, a recent study found that the majority of women (90 percent) feel somewhat financially insecure. Three out of five women older than 65 cannot afford to cover their basic needs, and 86 percent of women do not know how to invest or choose a financial product. Considering that 90 percent of women will be solely responsible for their finances at some point in their lives, it seems imperative that women become financially savvy.

Five Rings Financial has created a program, Wine, Women & Wealth, developed by women, for women, to start a positive conversation around money and to help build a support network for women.

Shawn Coffey of Your Prosperity Path is launching Nevada County’s first Wine, Women & Wealth event with the support from organizations such as FemmePowerment, See Jane Do and Sweet Spot Power in hopes of creating an easier and more enjoyable way to learn more about money and finances for women. Mara Hoover, founder of FemmePowerment, will kick off the free event as a special guest speaker at 6 p.m. tonight at the Holbrooke Hotel in Grass Valley. Hoover is a dynamic speaker and facilitates Wine, Women & Wealth events all over the United States.

She is passionate about empowering women to have great relationships with their money.

“In a financial world that was created by men for men, we recognize that women do business differently,” Hoover said. “As women working with financial advisors, we want to know that we’re in community, that we’re being supported and can have financial planners that understand us, that we can trust and like.”

Hoover will also be speaking at a local See Jane Do gathering Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. to noon in a private venue in Nevada City with Alix Rager of Sweet Spot Power and Elisa Parker of See Jane Do. Participants will explore what holds them back financially and how to redefine their relationship with money. See www.seejanedo.com for more information and to register. For more information and to reserve your seat at Wine, Women & Wealth, contact Shawn Coffey at 530-802-0810 or Shawn@YourProsperitypath.com.
